Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, said on International Women’s Day, “I am deeply saddened by the consequences of this brutal war that women in Gaza are exposed to.”
This includes giving birth without basic medical care, a lack of hygiene products and privacy in exceptionally unsanitary living conditions.
Our teams work tirelessly to support women’s committees in overcrowded shelters, provide psychosocial support to women survivors of gender-based violence, and create safe spaces for them.
However, we must do more to protect the rights of women and girls, and prioritize unrestricted, gender-responsive humanitarian assistance.
An immediate ceasefire is a minimum.
